British AirwaysBritish Airways

It was 1919 when the first British airline was established, the Aircraft Transport and Travel and its first route was Le Bourget – Honslow. The competition from the French Airlines was fierce so several small airlines merged – Aircraft Transport and Travel, Handley Page, Instone Airways and British Marine Air Navigation creating the Imperial Airways. Evolving to become British Overseas Airways corporation (BOAC). In 1974 they combined with British European Airways European in 1974. In 1976 Concorde started flying with British Airways and the company had a big fleet of planes like Boeing 747 and Lockheed TriStar. In 1987, the airline was privatized allowing shares to be sold in the Stock Exchange.
